I couldn’t wait to get this memory book into Gwen and Eddie’s hands! It is the grand moment (in the process)…the edits are finished, the picks are made, the story is all laced together…and then I get to hand over a book full of their life.
During the actual photo shoot, I’m completely engulfed in (aperture, composition, speed, lens, focus, depth, that face, her glance, this place, his laugh, their hugs, unique details) the event. So much so, my emotions are put away for the sake of capturing. That is…until I stop (at the end of the event)…and ‘feel’ what I have in my hands. I have someone’s life, memories, time…all on film…it’s priceless and sacred. I feel the responsibility (to give it back). I’ve just borrowed something that I could never replace…that is the weight of what I hold when I end a shoot. A camera (or two) heavy with a person’s life and memory.
I’ve shot everything from business gatherings to weddings to birthdays to public displays to one on one sets…and it is the same. A rush and pure giddy pleasure…right down to the hand off of one of these books to the person or persons to whom the life (within) belongs.
